Families and Communities engagement
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my new role at St Cyres school.
My name is Njide Ezechi, and I have been appointed to work in the area of family and community engagement (FACE). This exciting new venture means that students and parents from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities now have a representative in the school. I will act on your concerns about how your race, ethnicity and culture affect learning and other activities at St Cyres.
About Me
I am employed at Cardiff Metropolitan University as an international academic adviser and have worked in various roles in education: tutor, manager, lecturer, and adviser.
Njide Ezechi
Both my parents are Nigerian but I was born in England and educated in both the UK and Nigeria. I know what it means to look and feel different.
This is why I am passionate about helping people from ethnic minority groups work towards reaching their full potential. This often involves recognising and breaking down barriers that exist due to colour, ethnicity, religion and background.
What will I do?
Are you a student or parent from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic community? If so, please get in touch with me and let me know how you would like St Cyres to demonstrate that it really understands the needs of its ethnic minority children. What is the school not getting quite right? What kind of improvements are needed to help ensure children from ethnic minority backgrounds can achieve their best? What are your concerns? I’d also like to hear what the school is doing well that you’d like to see more of.
What next?
I am comfortable talking about race, ethnicity and culture and have personal experience in this area.
Contact me if you need to speak to someone. If you are a parent or child from an ethnic minority background and have concerns or even ideas on how St. Cyres school can do better, get in touch. I am here to listen, to be a voice and to act on your behalf.
