Pupil participation and leadership
Learners are at the heart of schools. The way that they view their experiences should be used to inform and influence how schools operate. When pupils are involved in making important decisions about what goes on in their school, their engagement and productivity has the potential to improve. Collaborative decision-making has the potential to make a significant difference to the wellbeing and educational outcomes of pupils, particularly for underprivileged pupils.
All pupils at St Cyres School have a voice and are regularly involved in discussions that affect them and the school. Pupils raise items during TLC and pupils from every Learning Coach group are elected as Year Council representatives. Topics of interest are raised at Year Council Meetings and then discussed at school council. Members of the School Council meet formally once per half-term to discuss important key items related to school improvement, pupil progress and wellbeing. The discussions and actions identified during school are then communicated back to all pupils during TLC. Staff at St Cyres are kept up to date with the work of the school council on a regular basis. School Council election week will commence in September 2024 for the academic year 2024-25.
In addition to school council, pupils participate in the pupil groups below:
- Joint School Council (Year 6-7)
- Sports Council
- Eco-Committee
- Anti-racism Steering group
- Digital Leaders
- Criw Cymraeg
- Young Carers group
Subject Champions are elected by Heads of Department at the start of each year. These pupils lead, and contribute to, a variety of activities that help to improve their experiences and learning in the different subject areas.
The School's Pupil Learning Reviews carefully consider the views of pupils when evaluating the effectiveness of the school's learning and teaching approaches.
