Our Sixth Form
St Cyres 6th Form is made up of approximately 200 students across Year 12 and Year 13, all of whom study Level 3 courses. Whilst being distinct in nature, our 6th Form shares the same values and ethos of the main school with a strong focus on meeting the wellbeing needs of our students and ensuring that they reach their strong academic potential.
Students in Year 12 study four AS Level subjects plus the Level 3 Skills Challenge Certificate and most students in Year 13 continue with three subjects through to full AS Level, while continuing and completing the Level 3 Skills Challenge Certificate. Whilst the majority of our courses in St Cyres 6th Form are AS and A Level programmes, we also run a number of vocational courses to meet the needs of our students, and more details on this and all other options can be found in the ‘Curriculum Information’ section of this website.
We pride ourselves in offering the very best support and guidance for students who are considering entry to St Cyres 6th Form, as well as the continuing support and guidance they receive when being part of our 6th Form. We have a very experienced Head of 6th Form in Ms Jones who, as well as focussing on the academic progress of our students and ensuring that they are meeting their dreams and aspirations for their future beyond our 6th Form, ensures that students are well supported throughout their 6th Form life. As well as Ms Jones, we have a wide range of excellent subject specialist teachers and Learning Coaches who guide and support students throughout their time with us.
St Cyres 6th Form enjoy all the benefits of being part of a 21st Century school, as well as having their own specialist accommodation which comprises the 6th Form Centre, dedicated 6th Form classrooms, a Silent Study Room and a 6th Form cafe.
Results at both AS and A Level continue to be very strong and the majority of our leavers in 6th Form leave for their first choice university. Many of our students move on to study in Russell Group universities and we have a good record of supporting students who apply for Oxbridge and for Medicine and Dentistry. A smaller number of students move on successfully to apprenticeship placements. In all cases, we get to know students well during their time with us, and we are always able to support them in the journey to their chosen destination.
St Cyres 6th Form is a warm, welcoming environment and, whilst the majority of our students who join our 6th Form come from within our own Year 11, we also welcome applications from Year 11 pupils from other local schools.
I hope you find the information on this St Cyres 6th Form website useful, but as always, if you need further information or advice, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Jones at the school.
